send to "mail recipient" does not open OE in Win7
#1
Hello Rafael,

I just noticed recently when I tried to send a picture in OE that it did not work. I right clicked on the picture and then on the menu, send to and chose "mail recipient". The small window popped up to resize the picture. I clicked OK but then Outlook Express did not open with the attached picture. This is a very nice feature in OE and I would like to know how to make it work correctly. I have the program default settings in Windows 7 set to OE as can be seen in my screenshot.

Thanks,
Geo

Hello Geo,
that feature works.
Please make sure that you have installed last version

Usually that feature stops working after MS Office is installed. To fix that, you need to reinstall OE, OE must be installed again AFTER installing ms office (if you have office)

Rafael,

Thank you. I downloaded the latest version of OE and the feature now works properly. I still have the issue when using Firefox and clicking on "contact us". It opens OE but not the compose new mail. It opens to my Inbox instead. Any ideas?

The only thing you must do, is making oe default from control panel>default programs.
This should make it work with contact us (mailto) protocol
Please make sure that the MAILTO on Default programs is set to OUTLOOK EXPRESS

Rafael,

Thank you for responding to my issue. If you look at the message I sent above you will see the attachment showing Outlook Express as the default for "mailto". Outlook Express has ALL the defaults set as can be seen. I just went back and checked again and the OE defaults are still set correctly. When I click on "contact us" below, OE opens to my Inbox instead of "Create Mail" window with the recipient's email address in the "TO" field. It's not a big deal as I can right click on "contact us" and choose "copy email address" and then open the "Create Mail" window and paste in the address. It would just be more convenient if it worked correctly. Thanks for your help.

Please check if the key below on your registry

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express\shell\open\command

has default value

Code:
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe"

Rafael,

When I click on "contact us" Outlook Express still opens to the Inbox instead of the "create mail" window. I have done everything you have suggested and this is still not working as it should. I can live with it I guess  Huh

But this morning (3/19/18) a new problem, or old problem, happened with OE.  I went to my pictures folder and chose a picture to email but when I right clicked, the drop down menu did not include "mail recipient". It was just missing from the menu totally. So once again, I completely uninstalled OE and then reinstalled using oex221_last_version.exe which I used the other day to fix a problem. I think this is the 4th or 5th time I have had to reinstall OE to resolve a problem.

After reinstalling OE clean, the program was working okay with the exception that the "mail recipient" was still missing from the SendTo drop down menu. Also, when clicking on "contact us" OE opens to the Inbox instead of the "Create Mail" window. Oh, and I did go to the control panel and verified that OE still had all it's defaults set for mail and news. Recall that I am running Windows 7 32-bit.

So now I am at a loss. But I checked the "Tools" area and found SendTo_Intaller.exe. According to the comments this program only works on Windows 8 or 8.1.  I thought that at this point I would download it and try it on my Win7 system anyway. The installer ran successfully and then when I when back and to check the drop down menu, "Outlook Express Mail" was listed. I right clicked on it and it opened OE with the picture attached and resized. So the SendTo_Installer program fixed the missing "Mail Recipient" issue.

Thought you would like to know that this program did work on my Windows 7 system and fixed sendto mail recipient issue.

Thank you and hopefully the "contact us" problem will be resolved at some point in the future. I've read in the support forum that others are having the same issue as I.

I am attaching a couple of screenshots of my drop down menu and also my SendTo folder contents before the fix.

Regards,
Geo Johnson

Hello Geo,
It is really strange missing "Mail Recipient".
What windows 7 version do you have?

Anyway,
to get back the 'mail recipient', do the following:
Below are the steps on how to create Mail Recipient in the Sent To list.

>Click on Start

>Type in the Search bar %appdata%\microsoft\windows\sendto

>Right Click on the space in the middle of the window

>Click New

> Click Text Document

> Open the txt file in notepad, type in there 'Mail', and save the file as "Mail Recipient.MAPIMail"

SendTo_Installer is not needed for windows 7. So i suggest you to uninstall it and follow the steps above to enable send to.

Rafael,

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

If you view my previous post with the screenshots, you will see that the "Mail Recipient.MAPIMail" already exists
in the "SendTo" folder. It just does not appear in the drop down menu as also shown in the other screenshot.

I have tried your steps before to create that file but the "Mail Recipient" still did not appear in the drop down menu.

Even though the "SendTo_Installer.exe" is not designed for Windows 7, it seems to work fine. The installer
created a new item in the drop down menu named "Outlook Express Mail". When I click on that, the small
window comes up offering to resize the picture, then opens OE to a "create mail" window with the picture
attached and ready to enter the address and subject. So it works as it should after using the installer.

The SendTo_installer.exe does not show up in the "Programs & Features" so there isn't anything to uninstall.

I am attaching another screenshot showing drop down menu with the added item in it.
