[SOLVED] Outlook won't startup
#1
Running Win10.I tried to start outlook this evening via the usual desktop short cut and it seemed to try to start i.e a brief flash of a command line window, normal, then no activity after that. Task manager show's no process running.
I have recently subscribed to malwarebytes but have already run a few scans with no problems to outlook, but the last scan did require a restart to complete malware removal. There were no serious threats only PUP's !?
The desktop shortcut properties show a target directory of
C:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /run /tn "Outlook Express"
When I open the file location I go to
C:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe
That's all the info I've got so far.

Hello,
please try rinnung from start menu shortcut that points directly to outlook express executable.
If oe does not startfrom there also, then you must reinstall

This morning I restarted my laptop as the program I was running all night had locked up.
OL started ok , from desktop shortcut, with an exception required from windows firewall ?, not normally required.
I had previosly checked firewall exceptions and security settings to see if OL was blocked but found nothing. So it's now running ok.
I can't find OE in start up menu apps list.
What is the exact name that should be shown.
Thanks

You must check if your computer is infected, since as you said malwarebytes scan did asked for cleanup. There is no need for any exception on firewall, i suggest full scanning your computer and reinstalling oe.

Hello,

closed OE yesterday, and today it won't start - I just get 'runtime error 53 file not found.

Any ideas?

Jane, this normally should not happen, If you have windows 10 it may happened because of an major update, please read more here:

In any case, reinstalling sould normally solve it.

Can i reinstall by using the old .exe. file I saved in 'downloads'? Will I need the license key (which is of course ind=side an email i can't get at) and will all my old emails, sent and received, be there?

Thanks

Jane, Yes you can reinstall using same key, in case you have any issue with your key please contact me at runasxp@gmail.com
As for emails, normally should be there but you may have to import them from old identity folder.
You can also try the oe-restore tool that may try to restore your emails:
