I'm still using oe6_1.6.1, Win 7, and it has been working fine up until a couple of days ago. Now, I can open OE to the main page, but then it freezes...can't do anything on the page...nothing responds to mouse clicks etc. I haven't changed or updated anything recently, so I'm at a loss as to whats gone wrong. Not sure how to proceed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times, to no avail. Have also tried all the Windows repair procedures, and again no fix. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Long time (satisfied) user.....

Hello,
maby your DBX files are corrupt. Check also the page below if you use ESET:

In any case you are using very very old version... if you are able to upgrade to verion 2.2.1 is highly recommended (many issues solved)

Not using eSet. This old version was running fine up until 2 days ago.

Thanks

I used the "oe6_1.6.1" install file on another computer I have, and it installed and worked fine, so I'm assuming it's not the OE6 file that's at fault. Where else should I look for problems?

Thanks.

The default path of DBX files is:

C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\Identities\{YOUR IDENTITY FOLDER}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Try moving "Outlook Express" folder that contains dbx files from path above. Move it temporarly to another folder (ex your desktop) and open OE again to see if opens.
If Oe opens without dbx files, it means that your files are corrupt. If not, try reinstalling

Rafael...Success! After moving the old .dbx files to my Desktop, and reinstalling the old OE6_1.6.1, OE works!

Now, how would I determine which of my .dbx files is corrupt? Sorry about the elementary school questions....I'm just not as super-techy as I'd like to be at this computer stuff.

Also, how would I go about saving the messages in my old .dbx folders to the new installation?

Thanks!

Install new version and try importing your emails from import menu.
