OE Not Recognized as Win7 Default Mailer
#1
Can't get my two Win7 machines to recognize OE as the default mailer. Can right click on a JPG image, then click on Send to, and two email choices appear: (1)"Mail Recipient" and (2)"Outlook Express Mail Recipient". Clicking on #(2) in Win10 and Vista brings up the Attach dialog box enabling me to reduce the image size for convenient email handling and viewing.

I've set OE as my default email handler in the Win7 machines, but choice #(2) above does not appear . . . only the first choice appears and when I click on that and then adjust Photo size, it says, "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. . . ."

Need help on this one!

Hi Rafail,
I have oe6_v2.1.1.exe and think I installed OE 2.1.1 last May but not sure how to verify it. OE says that it is the default mail handler. Went to Control Panel and verified it shows OE as the default.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Clients, Mail has two lines: Default line has "Outlook Express" and PreFirstRun line has "Either there is no default mail client . . . ". This is the text in the dialog box that comes up, and I might add after the correct Attachment dialog box "flashes" but immediately covered up by the PreFirstRun dialog box. Can I delete the PreFirstRun line? Is there another place in the Registry that could be affecting this? Should re-installing v2.1.1 be considered?

I find the same registry lines under Wow6432Node. Also searching some say to blank out the text in PreFirstRun. Others say to delete both the Default and PreFirstRun lines and restart the computer. I deleted both PreFirstRun lines but the same dialog box shows up after selecting picture size.

I dont suggest deleting first line, as it will not give any results.
Please try reinstalling, no neet to uninstall first, just install it again

Hi Rafail,

Reinstalling OE6_v2.1.1 did the trick! Both Win7 machines recognize OE as the Default Mailer, and now resize and attach images to email okay. One machine still has the registry line, "PreFirstRun", and the other does not since I removed it. So I guess the line is not affecting anything.

The wife is now happy, so thanks for your help!
