IMAP and Delete key
#1
Hi
It is great to get OE working again (on my Windows 7). It is much better than Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail (on Win 10), especially for searching. Thanks!

Problem: When I press the Delete key (or the red X) the mail does not go into my IMAP 'Del' folder (or whatever I have called it), but instead disappers from ALLfolders. Using the Search function finds the mail, but it is crossed through and still shows it to be in the Inbox (and the mail can be opened form the Search window!).

So to delete mails, I have to be careful NOT use the Delete key, but move them to my IMAP Del folder (or whatever I have called it). Then the mail appears OK in the IMAP Deleted folder on another mail client.

Thanks in advance...
Roger

Hello,

To physically and finally delete emails marked for deletion in an IMAP account on Outlook Express:

Click the Purge Messages button in the toolbar.

Purge Deleted Mail Automatically:

While the click on Purge Messages is easy, it is still a click — a superfluous click if you never undelete any emails and always purge them at once (which makes the click many, many clicks).

If that's you, let OE do the clicking and have it purge deleted messages automatically:

Select Tools | Options from the menu in Outlook Express.
Go to the Maintenance tab.
Make sure Purge deleted messages when leaving IMAP folders is checked.
Click OK.

Hi
Thanks for the info about physically deleting messages, but my query is about not being able to restore accidentally deleted mails (done by pressing Delete key) when using IMAP.
If I press Delete (or the red X) the mail disappears from all folders!

*IF* you know what you are looking for: Using the Search function finds the deleted mail, but it is crossed through and still lists it to be in the Inbox (and the mail can be opened form the Search window and you can even undo the deletion!). But this is all very inconvenient!

Thanks,
Roger

Hello Roger,
First please make sure that all your email folders (even trash folder) are visible.
To do that, click on "IMAP Folders" icon on top right,or right click on root IMAP folder (the one that has your account name) and click "IMAP Folders"
Then click on each folder and click "Show" (see attached screenshot)

This will show all your email folders.

After that, go to "View>Current View" On top menu and check "Show deleted messages"

That will show deleted messages with a strikethrough line.
