Cannot send. Only receive emails
#1
Hi.
I have no problem receiving email from 2 hotmail accounts, but cannot send out any emails from either account.
Yet, I can send and receive emails with an ATT account!
I have changed ports, server settings, re-installed OE6.
This is the error message.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: '*****@hotmail.com', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The connection to the server has failed. Account: '*****@hotmail.com', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Try ports 25 and 587 without SSL checked, as i remember hotmail works with port 25 without ssl.

I am running Windows 7.  I have the identical issue.

My Hotmail account is set as a POP3 account.  I can receive emails but not send any.

Outgoing email SMTP is set at 25 for the server port Number.  All the correct boxes are checked; in addition every possible variation I randomly tried anyway (I use the identical settings in XP and everything works).  My Gmail and optimum online (a local internet provider) accounts work in both directions but my hotmail account won't send mail.

The error I receive is:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'HOTMAIL', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Help!

Thank you

Hello,
most likely you have not checked the smtp authorization checkbox. Please take a look on attached image

Hi, Me also after win 10 update. Have uninstalled and reinstalled OE6 several times. This occurs with all I attempt to send to and all are valid email accounts.

All I get is:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '******'. Subject 'Fw: ****', Account: 'pop.ozonline.com.au (1)', Server: 'mail.ozonline.com.au', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 <*****>... Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [*****]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Any fix, please, I have been using OE6 ever since Microsoft pulled it.

the error says "The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server"
Have you tried sending to another recipient? do you get same error?

Please also check if you have checked the checbox shown below on your account settings

All email addresses are valid. Checked or unchecked, same result. Looks like I am going to Windows Live Mail whic sends the same message no problem. Should be a fix for continual Microsoft update stuff-ups. Thanks for your time, Mick

Rafael, I had a similar error message from Outlook Express when I created a second email account on Microsoft. The problem turned out to be that I had set up a Pop3 Outlook Express email account but I hadn't set the Pop3/IMAP button on Microsoft's website to Pop3. The setting is hidden under the Settings / Options / Account / Pop And IMAP.

Rafael....

I am having this problem too. I have tried the various ports and switches you mentioned. These settings don't seem to 'stay'. After a while the email is unable to send again.

I have checked my ISPs server requirements and there is nothing there indicating a problem. If I cycle through the setting changes you suggest, I can send the email, but being systematic with the changes doesn't help. It's very strange.

Do you have any other ideas what's going on?

I know it's not my antivirus/firewall....it's never been a problem in the past, and I also turned it off to check, and it made no difference.

The only thing that has happened differently recently is that OE wanted to 'compact messages', and I allowed it to do so. Could that have done something?

Hope you are well....thanks for 'listening'.

Thomas
