OE6 will not send emails
Paid for & downloaded your outlook express program for windows 8.1 on my new laptop. Copied all email folders from old XP PC to new laptop. It ran fine while I was home. Now visiting in Florida and send email won't work. Receive ok. I use MSN hotmail. Outgoing server set to smtp.live.com port 587 with server requires authentication, same settings as my incoming mail checked, and with SSL checked on the advanced settings. Have tried turning off firewalls and stopping all virus protection software, changing ports, etc.

Error message during send receive is:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Is it possible the router here is preventing the send? The ISP is Comcast Xfinity.

Any other ideas? Thanks for your help! - See more at: http://runasxp.com/Thread-Help?pid=6605#pid6605

RE: OE6 will not send emails
It is possible router to block that port (587). But please first check using port 25 instead of 587.

Neither 25 or 110 work either.

RE: OE6 will not send emails
As i can see your privider has blocked port 25, , but port 587 should work.
Please check if you have checked the outgoing authentication checkbox (see attached pic) and make sure to try with firewall disabled.

Below are the settings for live mail:

POP server: pop3.live.com
POP server port: 995
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
SMTP server port: 587
SMTP Authentication required? Yes (same as POP3 username and password)

RE: OE6 will not send emails
Firewall & security turned off.
All settings as you suggest
Extended server timeout to 3 mins

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Nancy hotmail', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I guess I will just have to use web hotmail while I'm in Florida and will see if it starts working again when I get home to NY next month. Thanks for trying.

I was thinking maybe my outbox.dbx was corrupt. I renamed both the sent & outbox dbx files so it will create new ones when I open express. This didn't work.
While looking thru my dbx files I found SMTP.LOG. Here is the part where I first tried to send email when I got to Florida. Maybe there's something in there you can see as an issue:

RE: OE6 will not send emails
i would suggest you to use imap instead of smtp on that provider.

RE: OE6 will not send emails
I don't understand. I thought imap was only an incoming server choice. I have no problem receiving mail, just sending.

No , imap is a different type of connection (protocol). You can send with IMAP
